The Fredericksburg Art Guild is a non-profit organization with a mission to educate, encourage, promote, and cultivate the creation of fine arts throughout the Texas Hill Country.
The Guild receives funds from the Pedernales Creative Arts Alliance (PCAA) and the City of Fredericksburg Hotel Occupancy Fund. We are very grateful for their continued support of the Guild’s mission.
The Guild is a member of the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce.
Our Beginnings…..
The Fredericksburg Art Guild was founded in 1971 by internationally known artist and instructor John McClusky. He began the Guild above Dooley’s Store on Main Street, teaching weekly art lessons. Until the end of his life in 1994, Mr. McClusky faithfully supervised his Guild students.
Mr. McClusky’s art work continues to hang in the Guild as a reminder of our beginnings and encouragement to continue learning and creating.
In 2003, the Guild relocated to its current location at 308 E. Austin Street, across from the Nimitz Pacific War Museum’s Austin Street entrance.
In 2006, the Guild obtained its current 501(c)(3) non-profit status.
The Guild is a 100% volunteer organization. Our members work together to host events, juried shows, art classes, and encourage each other to create fine art.

What is a Guild?
A guild is an association of artisans, formed for mutual aid and the furtherance of their professional interests.
In medieval times, guilds provided opportunities for members to gain experience and skill, moving from apprentice to journeyman, and finally becoming certified masters of their craft. Working together in communal Guild Halls, these artists gained respect and recognition for their talents. At every level, members received support and protection from one another, while all members performed tasks and duties needed to maintain the activities within the Guild.
When you join the Fredericksburg Art Guild, you have the privilege of displaying your art in an interesting gallery, beside the works of other artists, advertised on-line, on social media, and in print. You receive a key to the building which gives you independent access to that communal space. That key also signifies responsibility of ownership; you are accepting participation in tasks and duties needed to maintain the space, activities and events of our organization.
A Guild, unlike a gallery, a health club, or a country club, is not a business which exists separately from its members. Membership is a commitment to support others who have committed to support you. A Guild is its members.
Membership
Our membership remains OPEN to new artists! We would love to have you join the Guild and share your art with us and the community. If you are interested in joining, you will need to submit an application with a $10 fee, along with three (3) works of art to be juried by the Board of Directors.
There is a one-time membership fee of $25.00 and the Basic Membership is $20.00 a month. This allows you to hang your art in the Guild per the Guild Guidelines. Your bio and art work will also be promoted on the Guild’s website, Instagram and Facebook pages. Members are required to docent once a month at the Guild as well as provide volunteer support for the Guild’s various activities and events. The application provides additional information and details of membership.
Associate Members: The Guild acknowledges Associate Members for a yearly fee of $30.00. Associate Members do not have hanging privileges at the Guild. Most Associate Members support the Guild by helping with special projects or events.
Patrons of the Guild: The Guild welcomes Patrons who wish to support the Guild financially. A gift of $100 or more adds you to our Patron list. Please consider supporting us!
