DARK AND LIGHT,  BLACK AND WHITE by Michael McAleer

The Fredericksburg Art Guild will celebrate the art of Featured Artist and Guild Member, Michael McAleer, at a First Friday Art Walk reception on November 1, 2024 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m.  McAleer’s show will run from October 31 through December 1 at the Art Guild.  McAleer will be presenting his photography in his show titled “Dark and Light, Black and White.

While McAleer usually uses a lot of color in his photos, this show is only in black and white.  Photography was once primarily black and white.  Many of the most haunting photos from the Depression years, for example, were in black and white.  The play of shadows and light, the contrast of the black and white give a wonderful way to view the world.  While many people seem to think everything is black and white, subtle shades of grey always fill in the spaces.  This  show brings to life people, Spanish Missions, and objects, not in “living color” but in shades of black, white and grey.

Michael has been a photographer for years.  He loves to travel and many of his photos are from the United States and many other countries where he has journeyed.  He has been a member of the Fredericksburg Art Guild for twelve years.  He also actively participates in the Sun City Texas Photography Club.  He was raised in Dallas, Texas, but has lived in several Texas cities, including Austin.  He lived and worked in Mexico City for almost 20 years.  He currently lives in Georgetown, Texas.

The Art Guild is open Thursday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each week and from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on First Friday each month.

The Guild is a 501(c)(3) organization supported in part by the Pedernales Creative Arts Alliance/Oktoberfest and the City of Fredericksburg HOT Funds.
